I'm actually quite happy with youtube tv, but it lacks certain channels and imo costs to much when I can get more channels with Directv Now for the same price. In all honesty though, the CableCard option and ability to do things with it like set up a Silicon Dust and/or Plex DVR solution or use a TiVo (plus better live sports) is really the only reason to go with Spectrum and not YouTube TV or something like that.I thought about doing something like tivo, but you still need a cable subscription right? So that would put me over what I want to spend or what I could get at Frontier. I've tested YouTube TV too and it's pretty slick really a better streaming plan than Spectrum's though I really like the CableCard option which I can only get through Spectrum. I've consistently had a better experience with the Spectrum app than I ever had with Sling TV.

I'll probably upgrade the HDHR to the new 6 tuner model when it's released this year.Ĭhoice is a fine/OK/average plan if you don't watch a lot of TV, or mostly watch On Demand type stuff. Roku streaming for on-demand and DRM content, and the HDHomeRun for anything live/linear. I recently took a 3 year promo offer with Spectrum so I am no longer on the Choice tier but rather a higher video tier with more channels, but still use the same setup. The HDHR also has 5.1 surround unlike the 2 channel stereo of the Roku app.
Since it's off the actual digital cable line, the delay on sports was much less. About a year in I added a CableCard and SiliconDust HDHR Prime box and began using that for live viewing. Picture quality was normally pretty good. Also in my market sometimes specific channels would disappear and I'd have to contact support to get the issue escalated to a network team to resolve, which typically took about 1 week. My main complaint was that live sports were about a minute behind on streaming that's going to be the case with almost any streaming.
